Map scrolling: UX is lacking for ultrawide resolutions
Given: 5120x1440 - i.e. 32:9 - resolution
Problem:
- The map is not using the whole width, maybe 1/2 of it (centered of course).
- However mouse scrolling will only begin when reaching the bounds of the physical resolution. Thus one needs to clear hundreds or thousands of "just black" pixels on the way with the mouse cursor to initiate map scrolling.
This leads to frustration, as some might assume one has reached the bounds of the world, while in truth one has not.
Possible solutions:
A) Make the map always use the full physical resolution. (Maybe this won't work for really small maps.) or: B) Start scrolling when the mouse cursor reaches the bounds of the map view, not just at the bounds of the screen.
P.S.: B) could be even better in this specific case, when scrolling starts as soon as the mouse is leaving the map view (i.e. just entering the black borders) - this way you could command each unit inside the map view without accidentially scrolling.
