Tape is only exported by Internal modules

Tape appears in many public types, but cannot be referenced in client code without importing internal modules. This doesn't seem intentional to me, but the fact that it has, presumably, been this way for so long makes me wonder if it's intentional and I'm just not using the library as intended.
