Error: "Failed to get current display rotation"

Hi, i want to use rot8, but I get the following error: Error: "Failed to get current display rotation" I'm using sway. If there is any more relevant detail to my, please let me know.

Generally speaking, I don't think I'm the first one to ever run into this issue and some guidlines on troubleshooting it would be nice.
