Annotating PDFs?

Open adqm opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

I'm not sure how easy or useful this is, but I think it could be interesting to think about being able to load in a PDF as a background that people can draw on, for annotating slides or similar.

For example, I could imagine loading in a multi-page PDF of slides in advance of a recitation, having those maybe just rendered in a vertical stack, and then drawing on top of that.

Maybe that's not an ideal mode of interaction, I'm not sure, but maybe something to think about.

I think this is a great idea. My goal is to replace as much proprietary pen-related software as I can, so it's natural to target PDF Annotator and Acrobat (some traditional ways to do this). And even cooler in a shared environment, I think. It's also a natural extension of #22 (SVG import), and probably not hard once #22 is implemented, given that I know how to render PDFs from experience in Coauthor.

Blocking on #22 (file import) ~~and #18 (multiple pages)~~.

I showed Cocreate to a friend (also a math/physics instructor at the university level) today and he complained that he couldn't drag-and-drop PDFs the way he can in Microsoft OneNote. My problem is that I can't paste images from my clipboard but I can imagine that my friend's desire to drag-and-drop PDFs would be something I'd want to do in the future too (I only started using Cocreate within the last month).

@ndattani See #22 for the main issue. This issue is about multi-page versions of that.
