provide old docs online

Several people asked why option X is not available in their tool because they assume the online docs refer to their version. Maybe we could have a drop down menu like here https://docs.python.org/3/

I've been thinking about changing the basic mkdocs theme for a while, in favor of using Material for Mkdocs. It is a well maintained project, that would allow us to use a lot of new features and powerful widgets (that would close several doc related issues/feature requests we currently have).

And versioning is one of them...

Looks fancy (especially the astronauts ;-)). If it is not too much work, I would be willing to give it a try.
