license, borrow-reuse this code with attribution in a package?

Hi Edwin Chen,

My name is Paul McMurdie, and I'm the main developer/maintainer for a computational biology package called phyloseq.

I don't know of any other R implementations of this gap statistic algorithm for which I could make proper dependencies in my package. I wanted to ask you formally if I could adapt your could, and include it in my package - with attribution to you as author, of course. I wanted to both give you the opportunity to decline, as well as the opportunity to define some sort of license to this for sharing/resharing.

Thanks for the consideration. I'd also be happy to discuss any details or reservations you might have, and also show you a draft of the adapted code in phyloseq, prior to any release.

Hey Paul, Sorry for the slow response! You're definitely welcome to use and adapt my code in any way you like. I can add a license if you prefer to make things more formal. If so, is there any license you'd prefer that I use? (I'm admittedly not well-versed in licenses, and would be delighted in any use at all of my code, so happy to use pretty much anything.)

Great! Thanks!

I'm similarly not well-versed in licenses. I assigned phyloseq an "AGPL-3" license, but I don't know which other licenses I can or cannot include in the package. I think AGPL-3 will be the presumed license if I include it in phyloseq and list you as author/contributor with no other special comments. If you realize that you'd prefer an alternative, just let me know, and I'll look into how I can indicate that in the package source.

Thanks again, and best
