[FEATURE REQUEST] - Remember last game and used profile on startup

Open Zaflis opened this issue 3 years ago • 6 comments

What problem does the feature request solve? Faster to start playing, currently we have to navigate 2 menus before seeing the start button.

Example mock-up (optional) Maybe make it more accessible to switch game or profile, it is a bit hidden in the settings menu. I think they could both show in the left sidebar, then you don't need the start selection at all except for the very first launch.

You can add settings options for "Always show game selection on startup", and other for "Always show profile selection startup" checkboxes. Although these are not important.

Additional information (optional) As far as i see it player don't need to select a game at all after choosing it once.

I second this feature request.

Thanks for raising the issue.

A similar feature is planned for game selection. Here's a mockup of what that'll be like: image

Profiles will however not be pre-selected because it'll end up being somewhat confusing. Even a setting to remember it would be quite a poorly placed.

why "it'll end up being somewhat confusing", probably just save selection before exit?

I mean it already does? The profile you last used is pre-highlighted, you just have to click a button.

The thing is that obscuring functionality isn’t in the best interest in the target audience of the manager. It’s aimed at newcomers to modding, and there are a surprising number of people who can’t even run the setup without guidance.

Game selection isn’t as bad, and there’s the explicit set as default option. That game selection mock is suited for that design. The profile selection screen visually doesn’t support it.

Currently, there are two things that annoy me: having to select the game and profile each time, and once you've done that, changing the profile is hidden in the settings menu. Here's my mockup for a solution: adding a profile and game change right to the sidebar.

Though as I assume most people will only have one profile, these could be hidden by default, and enabled by some "Advanced mode" toggle in the settings.

I only have one game and one profile, but having to click on the Select Profile button is really annoying. There should be an option to set the defaults.

As far as the target audience, the WIKI page should be fine.
