How to report the age range [x, y] vs. [x - y]

Currently we say Mean age = 28.3, SD = 16.6, range: [8, 54], and the range is reported similarly to CIs (with a comma). But perhaps here it would be better something like: range: [8 - 54] or simply range 8 - 54?

If we use a dash, it should be an en dash with no spaces – not a hyphen, to follow typographic conventions
