Unable to use recycle bin unless as admin

Open iieeann opened this issue 2 years ago • 14 comments

If qimgv is launched normally, deleting files will not go to Recycle Bin, it is permanently deleted. I tried to launch it as Administrator and now deleting files will go to Recycle Bin. Is it the way qimgv is designed or is there anything wrong with my settings?

Running Windows 11 non-insider version.

Other applications are fine? If so i'll test this on 11

hmm, if you say other applications, i have issue with Steam too. Steam client update will proceed without issue, but Game patch/update will never download and stuck forever at 0%. Only when I launch Steam as Administrator then the download will continue as normal. Under Win10 running Steam as normal has no such issue. Today is my first day using qimgv so i can't compare with Win10.

My windows account has Administrator rights.

Can you confirm with something like FSViewer? I just dont wanna bother installing 11 especially if it turns out to be some microsoft bug

easymodo avatar Dec 20 '21 15:12 easymodo

Ohh no... FSViewer prompt for administrator permission to delete a file, and it sent to Recycle bin. Anyway i was using FSViewer this morning and deleting file has no prompt, how strange. Restart PC still the same.

I guess i should implement an admin prompt as a feature, but this looks like something wrong with your setup / bugged windows update

my windows is not updated from 10, it is fresh installation. hmm could it be permission thing i will try sort it out to take ownership of all the drives.

Just tested Faststone Viewer 7.5 can delete the file without prompt and go to Recycle Bin. qimgv won't go to Recycle Bin.

I think i solved the problem. I changed all the Drives ownership from D: to F: to my Microsoft account, and now i can delete files and go to Recycle Bin. For FSViewer, even before i changed the ownership, it can delete and sent to Recycle Bin.

Earlier a lot of folders and files ownership is by unknown account S1-xxxxxx (long name). This could be due to i always reinstall or install windows on C: , but from D: onward the ownership is messed up due to mixing of local account and microsoft account over the years.

you said "you made a fresh installation"

err, what i meant is the C: drive is formatted and installed with Win11, not updated from Win10. Other drives are data drives. Those files i have problem to delete are all on data drives, i have no pics in drive C:

Can confirm this bug. Neither move-to-trash nor perma delete work even though qimgv say otherwise. Deleted images are still exist in File Explorer.

Can confirm this weird bug. I'm having this issue with only a folder inside another folder full of other folders with correct permissions all. I'm not having the issue on the other folders. All folders including the one with the issue have the same permissions. I honestly don't understand what the program is seeing wrong there on that folder.

(using windows 10 21H2)
