Fix or remove websocket feature

The service that had been used to provide real time messaging via websocket is rejecting connections and as such our backend logs are full of exceptions for not being able establish a connection every couple of minutes. This makes finding real problems very hard.

We should discuss either disabling or removing it entirely for the time being.
