I might be misunderstanding your question, but that is what `alwaysShow` was intended for. The documentation uses that prop to **always show** the calendar at the top of the page.

There's now an `onDateChange` event you can use for detecting date changes

you can have a null start and end date as your initial state. Why not just set the placeholder to `dd/MM/yyyy` when it's empty?
