Help getting started

Hi, Created a Javascript program for IE/OCX 20 years ago to print labels for a client. Now they want me to update it to work on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc. as the new 550's do not support the DLS 7 (or really vice verse). I downloaded the latest drivers and SDK, installed on a clean computer and tried to start with the basics, CheckEnvironment sample script and it does ... nothing. Click the button, nothing, Chrome, Edge, Firefox. Dymo Connect service checks out and is running on the default port 41951 I am pretty put off, no error messages, nothing. Any help would be appreciated as this is not giving me anything to go on.
