Between rush hours is boring
During daytime, between rush hours there is not that much activity, in fact its almost as boring as during the night. to confirm this I manually recorded the amount of active vehicles and active citizens instances. for my 44k city.
The following chart is then printed:
- Two really nice rush hours are observed.
- schools out activity is observed
- if you look closly you can even spot a little bump of people getting a lunch
- but also that the day is as busy as the night :-(
So what is causing this?
- perhaps shopping for fun also happens at night?
- other reason?
But even if shopping for fun is active during the day. i would really love significant more activity, any decent sized city is busy during the entire day, and problematically busy during rush hours.
Some ideas to increase business during the day:
- a certain % of workers go out for business to other company's
- shopping for fun should shut down at night and double during the day?
- some % of outside traffic goes to a shop before continuing?
- some % of people at home visit other residential properties?
- ?
my Realtime settings:
dayspeed | 4 nightspeed | 5 all citizens are real | second shift | 6% night shift | 8% lucnh probability | 78% local shopping | 50% Shoppinf for fun | 50% on time ratio | 66% city wake | 06:00 city sleep | 22:30 work start | 08:45 work end | 17:00 lunch start | 12:00 lunch end | 13:00 max overtime | 2 school start | 09:00 School end | 14:30 max vacation days | 3
Also please note that i use "heavy outside traffic"
what are all the old cims doing? they should be out in the parks ;D
Probably the best way to simulate some extra activity during the day would be another probability setting for people working to "run errands" to another place of work, like a simple back and forth. I suggest a probability setting because this isn't something I'm really interested in - it makes more sense for me that my city is silent while everyone is hard at work. If anything feels like it needs more love in my opinion its commercial areas and leisure areas. Those places get PACKED right after work or when the night owls and college students go roaming after dark irl, but in game I see no difference between lunch hours and when everyone is supposed to be having their free time.
