Elm illustration to add to break up the text of the readme
I've created this illustration for the Elm readme, perhaps for the 'what?' section.
I wasn't sure what text was best to put into the speech and so am happy to change this, but I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts?
Also, I don't know if the speech should replace some other text or be in conjunction with it?
@Cleop ❤️ that you've opened this! 🎉
As an MVP I'd be happy to Ship it! however idea raises more questions than it answers:
- Should the "person" giving the tips be female or non-binary to encourage inclusiveness?
- Could the
color
scheme be @dwyl "teal" and grey like the dwyl.com website?
- Could the
- Should the speech bubble be a "standard" size/shape so that it can be re-used for different "tips"?
- Should the speech bubble go left or right? (in comic drawing a left-facing speech bubble denotes a "reply" to a previous statement/question. given that this is an answer to the question: "What is Elm" this could be fine.)
- Font: (cursive) handwriting is nice but it's slower to read. (that might be fine, but it's not often used in "comics"...)
Thanks :sparkles: @nelsonic for the feedback, and @iteles who I spoke to here. Your thoughts were both pretty similar and correspond with some of my own.

I've actually made a few of these characters but want to do more so that I can build out a wider set of people/identities. The ones I've made so far have all been a different random bright colour but I'm happy to start by using the dwyl teal for some consistency.

So far I've filled the speech bubbles with handwritten text as it's what been available to me whilst drawing but I agree that text is easier to read and also can sometimes fit more in. I hadn't thought so much about a standard size before but it's a good point.

I like your point about a left/right facing bubble's message. I have also drawn ones in the other direction so again, perhaps we could tailor these to the situation. It's also pretty easy to 'flip' designs in procreate so I could reverse the image too for ones that we want to change.

These are some other ones I've done....note I didn't intentionally make the woman the confused one but I happened to draw this character and then add the caption afterwards. For that idea I was thinking of adding a box for suggesting opening a new issue when you have a question.
So I think these could be useable but I agree we want to create an encouraging environment for discussion not 'type casting' people by gender etc. into certain roles. So if I keep going with feedback perhaps I can create a range from which we can pick and choose.
@Cleop As well as the above, I really like your idea of taking something that we find ourselves often repeating (like, as you pointed out, our constant requests to open issues) that we can use as a consistent reminder across repos 🙌
Perhaps this is another one to add to the collection:
@Cleop Is that a self-portrait???
@YvesMuyaBenda - Haha not intentionally but perhaps subconsciously! I can see what you mean!
