Booking holidays - PAYE dwylers

Open rub1e opened this issue 6 years ago • 7 comments

A dwyler has expressed confusion about how to use Xero for booking holidays.

  • [x] Document process for employees booking holiday in Xero
  • [x] Document process for employees booking unpaid leave
  • [ ] Review holidays policy (may as well while I'm at it!)

@rub1e This has come up again, so bumping the issue.

@iteles I'm going to leave this for Xero holidays (i.e. dwylers on PAYE) - for freelancer holidays, see #491

(I'll still write up the process though!)

This is all contained within our snazzy new Holidays document - https://github.com/dwyl/process-handbook/blob/master/holidays.md

I said above that I'd review the holidays policy but... have we ever had one? And do we need anything beyond what's in people's contracts:

  • PAYE dwylers: must get their holiday approved in advance by the CEO
  • Freelance dwylers: "To provide 10 working days of notice prior to taking up to 5 working days off and 15 working days of notice prior to taking more than 5 working days off"

I guess with the former we could clarify we need prior notice

And with the latter we could just remind some people...

Thoughts?

@rub1e We've never had anything other than what's in the contracts because... no one ever wrote it up before you! Thanks for doing that.

Agreed that the notice periods should be the same for both and maybe add a proviso that if you know your holidays are going to land right on a particularly critical time, as much notice as possible is appreciated.

Broadly, dwylers have in the past followed this second point and been careful to give as much warning as possible for difficult clients or critical parts of the project and this has worked well 👍

We can just send out an email to everyone letting them know where to find the policy if they ever need it and then close this issue. I reckon you won't get any more comments here seeing as its been open for 19 days already 😊
