In-memory collections

Old TODO entry:

1. Be generic enough to allow indices and constraints on purely in-memory collections, without encoding overhead.

Keeping it since it's an interesting target. There may be no good reason the code could not evolve to be clean enough to support what's mentioned in the entry, but maybe not any time soon, so marking unlikely.
