Will not install on latest Kali Linux: hstr : Depends: libreadline7 (>= 6.0) but it is not installable

It wont install due to this dependency being unavailable, Kali is based on Debian

Linux kali 5.4.0-kali2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.4.8-1kali1 (2020-01-06) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Compiling from sources still works but following the debian instructions you need to install automake autoconf pkg-config instead of autotools

In the kali repo there are libreadline 8 and 5, no version 7, however it seems to work

I am experiencing the same issue with Linux Mint 20. And it also has packages for libreadline8 and libreadline8, but not version libreadline7.

My solution for Mint: install the package from Ubuntu's archive: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/r/readline/libreadline7_7.0-3_amd64.deb After that, installation via apt install hstr works:

hh --version 
hstr version "2.0.0" (2018-08-28T13:30:00)
