Adding a license

Hi @dvessel !

This seems super useful, and I'm interested in using it myself and perhaps packaging it for Debian.

I was wondering if you'd be interested in attaching a LICENSE file, so that we have permission to use it within Debian. If so, you might like the Apache License 2.0. (If you have more copyleft leanings, you might to use GPL version 3.0 or later.)
