Could we have Notero generate zotero://select URIs instead of http ones?
I would prefer the Standalone app to open URIs rather than the browser. Could we toggle these in a setting?
Hi @7homR, thanks for the question!
I too would prefer to open items in the Zotero desktop app. This has been discussed previously in https://github.com/dvanoni/notero/issues/9#issuecomment-962534885, and the biggest hurdle is that Notion currently doesn't support opening URLs that don't start with http or https. I've submitted a feature request to Notion, but I haven't heard anything about it yet.
That being said, we could definitely save the zotero://select URL into Notion, but you'd either have to manually copy it and paste it into your browser, or you may be able to use some sort of utility to streamline that a bit. Would that be useful for you?
Thank you for the reply, and sorry to have missed the earlier thread. I'll contact Notion as well with this request, to add some slight further pressure, and see what I can do with a text property in the meantime.
Just as a follow up, I was happy to discover, by consulting this post, that we can create a TinyURL link which redirects to a zotero://select link that will open Zotero, and just use the TinyURL URL for a clickable link in Notion. Takes some frontend work to register the zotero://select address (Zutilo's good for fetching this) as a TinyURL, but then works great.
My current workaround with Notion, is to use this Chrome Extension Redirect URLs to make a rule that replaces the zotero with zotero://select.
When I click the link in Notion, it opens a tab in chrome, I have to click open in Zotero app, and then it goes to the app. I'd like to try and figure out how to remove the confirmation popup, but it's working pretty well.
I think it would also be a great feature to have the link to the PDF on Zotero so that you could use zotero://open-pdf with it.
Hi, guys just want to know if this redirect works on Mac OS, I succeeded on Windows but failed on Mac, it does lead me to Zotero, but doesn't locate the specific file. Any suggestions? Many thanks
have you checked the URI to zotero. Just in Chrome navigate to zotero://select/library/items/xxxxxxx
