Removed items from Zotero collection remains in Notero
Describe the issue
I have synced a Zotero collection with Notero. Adding new bibliographic items is syncing properly, but when I remove items from that synced Zotero collection, they are not being removed from Notero.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Sync a Zotero collection with Notero.
- Add new items to the Zotero collection and verify they sync with Notero.
- Remove some items from the Zotero collection.
- Check if the removed items are also removed from Notero.
Expected behavior
Items removed from the Zotero collection should also be removed from Notero, ensuring both remain in sync.
Additional context
I am using Zotero 7.0.11 and Notero 0.6.7 in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
This sounds somewhat related to #46. One of the concerns brought up there is the desire for pages to be marked with a "trash" checkbox/tag rather than deleting them from Notion completely. I could see that same concern applying for this use case—especially for folks who end up moving items between their Zotero collections but want to keep the same page existing in Notion.
I wonder if it'd make the most sense for this to be a separate, explicit option along the lines of: "Delete page in Notion when item is removed from synced collections"
Thank you. Yes, I wish to have a feature or option like "Delete page in Notion when the item is removed from synced collections in Zotero". For example, let's say I have 100 items in a synced collection in Zotero, and then I realize I don't need 30 of them, so I remove them or move them to another unsynced Zotero collection. It is be a time-consuming task if I need to delete the 30 pages manually from Notero too.
Thanks for sharing that use case. Makes sense!
In the meantime, one approach that might help optimize things for you is to add a specific tag to items you want to remove from a Zotero collection before you remove them. Once those tagged pages are synced to Notion, you can then easily search for them by that tag and delete them all at once.
Thank you for suggesting the workaround. I’ll continue using it for now. I hope the syncing feature improves soon, so we can avoid the extra two-step process. Appreciate your efforts in building Notero. it’s been a great boost to my workflow!
