Change type of 'Authors' from text to multi-select

Open ctruillet opened this issue 3 years ago • 8 comments

First of all, thanks for this integration! However, if i had a wish, it will be the functionality to change the type of authors property to multi-select. With this, it would be simple to add a sort by authors

Thanks!

I would love to see that enhancement as well ! I would like to suggest a similar enhancement, setting [Editors] property as a [Select] property type could also help sorting & grouping by journal, review, etc ... More generally, if there is any mean to let us configure the Notion Database property to fit more personnal need, I'll be glad to know how.

Thank you in advance for your consideration

Same opinion, for us, the first author and corresponding author are often the points we pay more attention to. If they can be separated and changed into options instead of text, it will have a better performance.

In addition, I think changing time to a single choice would also be better.

@ctruillet @CarlosLegba777 @Dx-wmc, do you have a desired format for the values of the multi-select options? I currently format each author as Last name, First name, but Notion does not allow commas within multi-select options.

Some other formats I've considered are:

  • Last name; First name (using ; instead of ,)
  • First name Last name

What do you think?

Hi. Thanks for reaching out. Personally I use " First name Last name " in my database, but I suppose others might have other preferences.

I'm exploring adding support for this. I ran a test to add ~2500 multi-select options to a property. I noticed that some parts of Notion start to become sluggish when working with that many options, so this is something to keep in mind if you have a lot of different authors in your database.

I want to support both text and multi-select, so if you try multi-select when it becomes available and you find that it slows down Notion too much, you should be able to switch back to text and re-sync your items to restore them to how they were before.
