[Feature Request] submenu/folders
lets say if im taking notes on apple products I would like a sub menu or a folder so everything that's apple related can go under that menu or folder. If this is possible I would really appreciate it and thank you for all your hard work
You can use the (currently somewhat hidden) tagging feature. Check the wiki page for details.
In the future I hope to make this functionality much more obvious.
Is there a menü with a list of all tags? like all the note with letter A at the beginning in one group an so on?
Not as yet. There's an API endpoint for retrieving the list but that's as far as I got. I have ideas on what I want to do with this, just not the time to carry them out at the minute. I'm hoping it's something that I can get onto sooner than later though as it comes up a lot.
I would also like the ability to group notes easily. I have various notes on topics/etc that become difficult to manage if not grouped
If I can, I vote against folders. Keep it simple. I much rather have a page with all tags listed and nested tags.
if thats the case @alephtaph i would envisage that if you want subfolders you can have them... and if none are added that it stays as you describe
@Joshndroid there are so many apps letting you do this and as far as I understand the developer the app should stay simple. This is what I really like with this KISS. (Keep it simple and straightforward)
@alephtaph While i agree with you on the KISS principal which is why i am interested in this app in the first place, the ability to at least have an option to group them under some sort of heading or similar would make management of a huge wall of notes far easier for myself and at least another who decided to raise it.
I want to move from joplin which has a big electron clunky app... but i have numerous grouped notes that are all related but not exactly the same kind of content. I like to have these separate for ease of use, searchability and sanity when i have 100's of notes I'm going to have to migrate across.
This could be done via a checkbox for the note with a clearer tagging system or headings, etc. This doesn't have to be used, but if desired can be.
@Joshndroid exactly! a grouping or folder option is a must have feature. and it wont make is "unsimple" i have way more than 500 notes and it is at the moment diffucult to find specific notes, especially if the search is not working correctly
I agree to have some sort of handling the notes in human readable structures. On the other hand I like the simple aproach to have only one folder with documents on the server and no database. The compromise could be to have:
- structured tags and a "tag menu" at left or right hand in the app.
- like dendron is doing. Filenames with dots separation. Based on this a virtual folder structure on left or right hand.
Both solutions would bring the possibility of structuring your files if you want. All people which prefer no structure could use like today.
The tags solution I would prefer, because you can start completely unstructured and later you can add tags if you need. But the todays tag handling is not very nice. So there should be a better optical handling of the tags in each file as well as the mentioned tag menu.
Also a kind of mix of both would be good: Tags with dots. Example: #work.project1 #work.project2 -> simple tags and a folder menu for the tags would be possible.
Another solution that I use is to make a "master note" in which you can group wiki links to other notes
Lets say in a note called Ideas
I have a list of links to other notes, this way you can use headings as separators and Ctrl + F
for searching inside the note.
You are also able to extend it with the tagging feature.
