Problem firmware update

Open Nicolas-Strange opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Man, I am developer and I really don't understand how to update the firmware. I followed all the instructions you posted on the github issues but......nope it doesn't work. it seems my mbrush is updating and restarting after using the cloner-2.5.8-ubuntu_alpha and the image generated by the tools/release_fw.sh but my phone couldn't connect to it. I have tried different combinations of files in the USBCloner/config/POLICY but no way..... I am close to send the device back so.... Could you post a video tutorial quickly before I become nervous using this device and throw it away?

The tarball (*.tar) generated by the tools/release_fw.sh is not for the cloner tool.

Which images you should feed to the cloner tool please refer: #18

I already tried that: download the burn tool: cloner-2.5.8-ubuntu_alpha.tar.bz2 unzip it download the firmware: cloner_fw_4.32_4.16.zip unzip it run cloner from the cloner-2.5.8-ubuntu_alpha Go to config/POLICY Click on setting button: For label boot => path to the boot file: u-boot-with-spl-20200514.bin For label kernel => path to the file uImage-4.16 For label rootfs => path to the file rootfs_princube_4.32.ubifs, also tried rootfs_mbrush_4.32.ubifs Save Start connect the mbrush via USB to my computer switch on mbrush with click the top button to enter the developer mode It seemed to work correctly: Screenshot at 2020-11-20 20-18-01

The mbrush made a sound (one bip) and restarted. Then use my phone to connect to it via wifi: open the wifi panel, found the MBrush-, st:0, connect to it with the default password: 12345678 open my browser (from my phone) and WTF it works now! THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO FORGET THE DEVICE WIFI AND RECONNECT TO IT USING THE PASSWORD OTHERWISE IT WOULD NOT CONNECT TO IT. Ok I solved the issue. Thanks Good device BTW. Good job!

Where did you find burning tools? How to do this in Win10?

I used a usb stick with ubuntu 22.04 on it. This can be booted in live-mode and you do not need to change your computer for it.

The instructions from @wataiso were very helpful and instrumental in bringing back my bricked princube. @davidanger you find all the needed files on the releases page. It is a bit scattered, though. Under 4.33 / 4.16 you can also find the burn tool for ubuntu and windows (cloner-2.5.10....). And you also find the cloner_fw_... files there (and in newer releases).
