DDG search bar focus from toolbar button

Hi --- I love DDG and use it all the time. Recently I noted that when I click the toolbar search button to get the search bar, I have to actually click in the search bar to give it focus before typing. This behavior doesn't seem intuitive, and in previous versions was not required. Perhaps there is a configuration setting that I can use to restore the preferred behavior? Or do I just need to accept that there will be an extra click required?

I'm running FF 54.0 (32-bit) on Windows 7 Home Premium.
