(Request) Ability to Toggle Safesearch

Open frozencemetery opened this issue 10 years ago • 5 comments

Currently, the family of search addons do not allow the toggling of safesearch (or for that matter modifying the search URL to add the appropriate value to &kp=). I believe that since there are sufficiently many use cases to have a URL parameter for this information, we ought to be able to customize it using the addon, since now firefox has removed keyword.URL.

Thanks in advance.

@frozencemetery Thanks for your suggestion.

Do you think that a simple configuration option would be enough in this case?

@mrshu I think that would work well, yes

@frozencemetery I've looked into it and implemented safe search option for the popup (for the time being). The latest build is here, I'd appreciate if you could try it out.

Thanks!

@mrshu Well, it installed, and looks to have a toggle for safesearch, but it didn't add itself to my search engine choices (or make itself the default for searching in the address bar, despite that checkbox being checked), so I can't confirm that the preference has an effect.

@frozencemetery Thanks for trying it out. I am sorry but the behavior you experienced was intended as the functionality you request is not present at the moment (see #24). What the last version implemented was safe search in the popup so if you try to search something from there it should honor your SafeSearch preference.

I am trying to figure out in #24 how to do it everywhere and it seems that it might be possible after all. Feel free to post your comments on anything on any of these issues.

Thanks again
