About Arabic translation

Open atefBB opened this issue 6 years ago • 3 comments

Hi. Thank you for the great work on DuckDuckGo. I have a note about Arabic language translations: there are no Algerian/Egyptian/KSA Arabic languages, those all are considered as dialects, so the Arabic translation should have a single file for the Standard Arabic language (AlFosHaa الفصحى). Thank you.

Thanks @atefBB - this is useful!

The set of locales which exist now was migrated pretty much directly from https://duck.co/translate/ and built up over time based on user requests. I would very much like to rationalise this set. Many of the dialects we appear to support don't make sense since, from the point of view of the search page, they would have little significant difference between their translations.

I'm not sure when we'll be able to start making major modifications to the supported languages here, but I appreciate you getting the discussion started - thanks again!

I'm waiting for 'major modification' and ready to help.

I think I'll wait until it's properly supported.

Wating for Support only one Arabic locale and support plural text form, the official one here.

We will translate duckduckgo better than Google.😂
