Add scale for status bar numbers/letters and option to move letter to right side of number
I want to make what I hope are a couple of relatively simple additions for this app.
- In the settings menu (⚙️), add a slider bar/textbox
that is able to scale the size of the number and letter
displayed in the status bar
I would like to see feature (1) because the numbers shown by this app in the status bar are very tiny compared to things like the battery percentage on the right side of the status bar, and I don't see any way to change this on the app currently.
- Please add in the app's settings menu a checkbox that says
something similar to the following:
☑️ Move letter below the chosen battery statistic displayed
on the status bar to the right side of the number
I ask for (2) because having the letter that describes some value is traditionally to the right side of the value, not below.
I would love to see these changes but I don't know how much work this would take. If these are going to require adding LSposed or be impossible to implement, just please say why it isn't possible.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any official way for third party apps to get text into the status bar, so the reason for the current sizing is because Wattz is abusing its notification icon. Text is rendered to an image, and then the notification icon is set to that image. This icon is square, which is why it is laid out the way it currently is. The units are on a different line to give the full width of the icon to the value, and I can't make the text any larger without it overflowing the sides of the image.
While I wouldn't necessarily call it abuse (a lot of other Apps do it as well, with a certain degree of freedom even like KWGT - also not sure how https://github.com/takke/cpustats does it with DataStats as well) how realistic would adding a stacking option be ? Given the absolute bs that is forced notification grouping... that option is obviously (likely) out of question although still possible (2 notifications with different values, some apps targeting 34+ still do it ungrouped). I unfortunately can't verify that "still ungrouped" works with target35/6 or how agressive the Android 16 enforcement is currently.
How about dropping the Unit in line 2 and replacing it with another user selected option ? Like Watts on top of Voltage (numbers only) with the notification itself showing
Battery Power: x.xW || Battery Voltage: x.xV
Ignoring potential text shift (unsure about the freedom in terms of "anchoring" stuff inside notifications) when charging in the double digits vs single digit drain, how much (code) complexity or additional CPU cycles would such an "abomination" add ?
Displaying two values stacked would be possible. The downsides would be increased configuration complexity and making what the values actually are much less obvious.
If you add option to show just number, and not show letter, number will be bigger. There is other apps that able to show temperature, bamowi in google play, and BatteryTemperatureDisplay in f-droid, and both show just number, and its right size. I think if user made choice what he want to see in status bar, lets say, temperature, or voltage, he will not forget, and showig letter is not necessary.

I like this idea.
While I do like those little graphics of a battery in the topbar, I would rather just see numbers/letters showing me the statistics I'm interested in if the graphics are in the way, or at least an option for it.

I didn't mean anything fancy. I mean, the difference between 20°C and 20°. Other apps i mentioned, dont show graphs in status bar. They show just "20°", and its right size. While wattz shows 20°C, and i think, because of that extra "C" letter, size shrinks down. I meant that if you add option to not display letter, user likely will not get confused, because user is the one to choose which stat to show. If there is "20°" its unlikely he will get confused, and wont be able to tell, i its temperature, or voltage, because he was the one to choose temperature in settings, he should remember.

Yeah, I think we agree. I wasn't asking for something fancy either, basically just what you said.
