Apply 'adjustment's to metadata targets

Per #156

This PR makes adjustment application more consistent by applying them to metadata vars instead of only to gene/feature vars.

ToDo:

• [ ] Decide if an input like do.adj.meta should be added to be able to turn this off and retain, or return to, current default behavior
• [ ] Manually check that it's working
