Example results in 'TypeError: sequence item 8: expected str instance, bytes found'

I have been trying to run the example code for this module, but I keep getting a 'TypeError: sequence item 8: expected str instance, bytes found' error message.

I am running the code as it is with Python 3.8.2 on Windows 10.
