Feature request - customizable filename option

Open Catfoodman opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

I've been a supporter of FanFictionDownloader for 10 years or so, and it allows for customizable filenames. I've had it configured to saving files as "Author - Title - # Chapters Status". This allows me to easily sort and manage the files without having to open each one. With the FFN Cloudflare implementation issues FFDN ihas been struggling, and now seems to be severely broken, so I've been shopping for a new method to save stories. I'm super impressed by the speed of this extension, and its output seems to work very well -the only issue I've had so far is that I have to manually rename everything in order to maintain compatibility with my existing library. Not insurmountable to handle manually for each download, but the ability to specify the format of the filename would be my top feature request.

The extension already knows the author name, the story title, and the # of chapters, so that shouldn't be difficult to implement. If status info is difficult to obtain easily a checkbox list of options (Complete, in Progress) could be added to the Advanced Options section and done that way.

@Catfoodman That's not a bad idea. Have a "Filename template" field on the advanced options. Perhaps as a drop down list, to keep things simple? (I'm thinking there's probably only a few combinations)

  • Title
  • Author + Title
  • Author + Title + Chapter range. (Note, chapter range is hard, so probably won't offer this See: https://github.com/dteviot/WebToEpub/issues/779.)

I disagree with status. Generally, it's either complete. (So user can manually tag it as such) or it's not complete, so does not have a complete tag. Also, I don't want the work of trying to find status. (And have to retrofit hundreds of existing parsers.)

@dteviot

There should also be other combinations available such as:

  • Title + Author [+ ~range~, optional] (most books in Calibre use this default, including mine).

I agree with you that it's not always possible to find the status of a novel.

I can find it on www.novelupdates.com, unfortunately, the status of the original novel/COO is complete but the translation has not been completed or discontinued (not all translators do list it even if it has long been completed or discontinued). Also, not all novels can be found on that site.

So that status can be ignored in my opinion. It's not that important either.
