I knocked this up against 2.1.0 but honestly, Rust is a dumpster fire and since it no longer applies anyway, perhaps you could fix it up against master?

Oh yes, I will add it to master. In the long term I am planning MTU auto-discovery anyways.

That's good for underlying transport but many things care about interface MTU (eg ospf) - both would be nice but pmtu is unreliable unfortunately
