Spanish should have at least two variants (Spain and Latin American)

Open Temporalin opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. The Spanish language is usually divided in Spanish from Spain and Spanish from Latin America. While speakers from one place can understand the other variant, we usually prefer to use our own.

Describe the solution you'd like Split the Spanish language in, at least, two languages.

  • Spanish (Spain) = Español (España)
  • Spanish (LatAm) = Español (latino)

Describe alternatives you've considered Some softwares have variants per country (Mexico, Argentina...).

I completely understand where you're coming from. However, this is something that I personally cannot solve - adding translations for specific regions will mostly be down to contributors, the most I feel comfortable doing is simply adding the regional language to Weblate. Once the new language has enough in-game translations, it will then be added as an option in the options menu.

Sorry if it sounded like I asked for the translation. Enabling the variants in Weblate is the way to go, of course. Thanks!

Yes, it is easy to do. Godot engine has Spanish, Spanish (Argentina), Spanish (Mexico) on Weblate. Renaing “Spanish” to “Spanish (Spain)” would be good.

Seeing https://hosted.weblate.org/languages/, there is no “Spanish (Spain)”, so it could be still “Spanish”.
