I would like to get rid of these "plugins/Factions/data/*" files.

While support for an external database is on our roadmap, I'd like to point out that the current implementation is faster than a database-referencing approach would be. The files are loaded at startup and then all of the information stays right in Java's memory for all further use. It's the fastest you can get it! :)
