[Question] Is the Windows 10 Taskbar now classed as classic?
This question popped in my head earlier, can the Windows 10 Taskbar be classed as classic?
the windows 10 taskbar had a few features that some people might like but these were not present in earlier versions of Windows, things such as:
- The date underneath the the clock
- the search box
- .....
If it is Windows 10 now counted as classic perhaps adding some of these features into an official Windows 10 theme. Even if it is not classic perhaps adding these extra features would be a big positive.
NB: if additional features are to be request this should be by there own issues, this issue is more just a question to see what the community thinks.
Thanks
I think it would be useful to have a program that replicated the Windows 10 taskbar moving forward, but I don't know if it's different enough from other versions to be truly considered unique. The biggest difference I see between the Windows 10 and 11 taskbars are the features that had existed since 95-98 days, such as taskbar toolbars, same width for text labels, vertical or top taskbars, and multiple rows. Otherwise I think 10/11 are practically identical if you have the Start button on the left side. The biggest change to happen to the taskbar was definitely Windows 7, 10 only really adds the search box that you mentioned and the little Task View button.
Currently I think adding a Windows 7 featureset would be the first necessary step, a Windows 10 theme would basically just be a reskin of it, minus maybe the search box. As far as I know, the developers don't currently have any plans to do this, but are willing to add it if someone completes it themselves, but we'll see. I agree generally that as time goes on it will be useful to have a program that does this, Explorer7 is promising but it also comes with many caveats that RetroBar simply doesn't.
If we're assuming that 7 theme will never be added though, I have a few thoughts: What could possibly be done to enable a search box within the confines of the 'retro' theme would be to add an address bar to the taskbar as an option. This feature was available in every Windows version from 98-10, and while it was only really useful for typing in an address to go to it quickly, you could discreetly add a search function to this box and have it look clean.
It is actually already possible to have RetroBar show the date underneath the clock if you resize the taskbar to two or more rows, at least in the XP and Vista themes. It does make the taskbar about 10 pixels taller than the Windows 10 taskbar though.
we havent got the windows 7 or 8 taskbars yet so i would wait until then
