CS 1.5, the pre-steam version of CS using WON?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Maybe it'll require a unencrypted dll for Windows, but for Linux it will work without any problem.

I thought rehlds is only for counter strike above 1.6 right? And I also find out that the release binaries only contain engine_i486.so, without engine_i686.so. How could I get an i686 binary?

ReHLDS works with HL1 Steam only, but nothing prevents you from running the older CS versions (from Beta 7.0 to CS 1.5) as an Half-Life 1 mod, as long as you have all the files for running it.
