Add new styles and customisation options

Open dreadnaut opened this issue 4 years ago • 11 comments

Thundebird 78 introduces limitations to what can be customised in the Compose window. Because of this, I had to drop many of the styles that BorderColors has supported for years. At this point, the only area of the window that we can style is the text editor. However, modern CSS gives us a trove of options.

This issue is here to collect new ideas for styling the compose window based on the selected identity.

Currently supported by the add-on:

  • All sides
  • Top and bottom border
  • Top border
  • Gradient on the left side
  • Gradient in the top-right corner
  • Gradient in all four corners
  • Gradient at the bottom
  • Background color

Thanks for this. Just found it today. I am sorely missing Account Colors, another Add-on that no longer works. Two questions:

  1. Possible to change the thickness of the borders?
  2. Change the gradients to match dark mode?

Regarding (1), an option to change the "size" of the effects is indeed on my list. Do you think a "small / medium / large" selector would be enough? That way it would apply to borders (say 4/8/12px) but also to gradients.

Dark mode support was properly broken, but should be fixed in this release. Could you have a try and let me know if it solves your problem?

Regarding (1): 3 thickness options would do the trick for me. I don't like add-ons being overly customizable to a degree, that you need half an hour to figure out all the options ;-) An "Expert mode" might be a valid compromise

Any chance to consider extending the color scheme to the folder tree on a "per account" basis (as in Account Colors) or is that out of scope?

I have a suggestion for you, kinda along the same lines as Account Colors add-on. Are you able the colour the outline of the stars or better still the background colour the inbox window messages. So we can easily at a glace tell which email under which accounts, without opening them or having to have the account field showing, like I am currently doing which is a pain

@ungesundes-halbwissen @JenStarNZ Thanks for the feedback! Regarding the folder panel and message list, I think they are out side the goals of this add-on, which focusses on the compose window.

However, I'd really like to have a mailbox icon in the message list, matching the colour of the account 🙂 Maybe it would fit in an existing add-on that works with message columns? I'd be happy to contribute code if you find a taker.

Very nice add-on (I'm also trying to find a replacement for Account Colors add-on) I really like to corner gradient. Could you add an option for gradient on all 4 corners?

That should not be difficult, @ZoharML — I'll give it a try this weekend!

Do you think the same size would be OK, or should they be smaller?

Current size looks nice to me. Adding the size request from @dreadnaut will make it flexible and best fit for every one. Thanks

Just wanted to vote for:

  1. Thinner (or user controlled thickness) border around all 4 sides when that is selected.
  2. Much smaller gradient corners when that is selected. Both items would look more subtle, rather than so in-your-face. I love this addon!

Hi @Bobswesternshirt @ungesundes-halbwissen @ZoharML @ed1111 I have added an option to change the size of the border or gradient, and a new style with gradients in the four corners.

If you have a moment, could you test the pre-release version?

This is just what I was looking for.

I did not changed one of my accounts color, and when the style was gradient a dotted line appeard on it's new messege border. I changed the color to White to solve this. I think that a color "none" could be usefull.
