Improvements to Charge positioning with crosses
Jim Burrows — Today at 18:59 I started looking into the positioning of 4 (or fewer) charges with various types of objects between them (more to come below) and decided to illustrate their relationship to the fess point with a tine fusil at the fess point. That resulted in the following experiment. which illustrates that a single charge is in fact at the fess point, so long as it isn't modified by "over all" OR both "over all" and "in fess point". [18:59] !draw Argent a fusil gules much smaller a fusil or in fess point much smaller over all a fusil vert smaller a fusil azure in fess point much smaller

Jim Burrows — Today at 19:00 one suspects that all four of those should have been centered on the same point.
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:11 Okay on to a couple of things that work just as I would expect, because we'd sooner no disrupt those if we fixe thos that work in an unexpected manner. [19:12] !draw azure a cross between four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:12
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:12 And if we narrow the cross… [19:12] !draw azure a fillet cross between four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:12
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:14 The mullets grow and stay centered in the empty space left by the cross, which. Both the quartet of mullets and the cross are centered in fees. [19:14] But what if we coupe the cross… [19:15] !draw azure a crosslet between four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:15
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:16 The quartet shrinks substantially, but remains centered on fess. The crosslet, however is not so centered, which is awkward. [19:17] But we're used to cheating a little for Drawshield, what if we remove the pesky "between"? [19:18] !draw azure a crosslet four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:18
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:20 The crosslet is centered but the mullets are not and they change their arrangement to the default 3 1 (which by the way seems the wrong default, 2 2 seems more obvious—just a roll of the dice), so what if we arrange them? [19:20] !draw azure a crosslet four mullets or 2 2 a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:20
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:20 Yay! the crosslet centers in fess, but… Boo! the quartet doe not. [19:21] I suspect that four … 2 2 should center on fess. [19:27] If we rotate our cross from above 45˚ making it a saltire, once more it works just as we might expect. [19:27] !draw azure a saltire between four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:27
The Parser Guy — Today at 19:30 also works with a cross, just not a crosslet (might be an ordinary/charge thing) [19:31] !draw azure a cross or between four mullets of the same a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:31
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:31 The mullets move as we would expect from the 2 2 arrangement used up until now to a 1 2 1, much as we would hope, and everything is centered in fess.
The Parser Guy — Today at 19:32 a saltire is an ordinary so that's probably why it also works
@The Parser Guy !draw azure a cross or between four mullets of the same a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:32 Yes. I started with that configuration. It is the charge / ordinary at work at that point. [19:33] But, to continue with the part about the saltire (and again switching from ordinary to charge) if we replace the saltire with two charges in saltire… [19:33] !draw azure two lances in saltire between four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:33
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:34 The charges move to 2 2 and everyone centers just below fess. [19:36] For myself, I would expect a 1 2 1 arrangement just as with the ordinary. [19:36] Something not unlike: [19:37] !draw azure two lances in saltire four mullets or 1 2 1 a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:37
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:37 Though perhaps centered in fess. [19:38] Note that neither the 1 2 1 nor the in saltire centers in fess nor where the other does. [19:40] All of this came yo when trying to explain to some one new why [19:40] ! draw azure a cross moline between three mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:40
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:41 looks as it does, being a degenerate version of [19:41] !draw azure a cross moline between four mullets or a fusil sable in fess point very much smaller very much smaller smaller
drawshield BOT — Today at 19:41
Jim Burrows — Today at 19:44 Great Ghu only knows how a cross-shaped charge between three should be emblazoned, but I wouldn't address that before handling the anomalies above. Heck. I might eve argue that unless you get really cute, yu're better off not regarding the cross moline as a cross, but more like a roundel, when emblazoning it between. [19:45] [End of series of observations on crosses between] [19:46] Sorry for the length, but the analysis just kept unfolding.
