Not sure this is what you are looking for, but the Mutable and Accessible interfaces provides a way to edit and store properties. See [this](http://owner.aeonbits.org/docs/accessible-mutable/).

+1 for adding logging. I use a merge strategy when reading 4 to 5 different .properties files. It would be nice to see a logging statement saying which .properties files...
