Low Contrast for Selected Text
The difference between selected vs unselected text while on a token is too similar, causing me to not be sure if the text is selected or not:
Caret on token:
Token selected:
This is almost worse if the token has multiple occurrences near each other;
Middle $this selected:
I feel like perhaps selected text being a color rather than a slightly different grey would be more legible.

I agree you, too!!!
I think the new version is worse; it's hard to distinguish the selected text. It would be better to highlight the selected text.
