No audio

I get this error when running through Wine (10.15), I've not made a custom prefix, just running with my default system one. The game runs as I'd expect except no audio. Here's the log:

[09/22/2025 14:58:53.957] [INFO]: [Physics Manager] Error : Play [09/22/2025 14:58:53.963] [INFO]: CKError : Failed to load the sound file, creating a default blank sound. [09/22/2025 14:58:53.965] [INFO]: Warning : 'Arial' font not found on this system ! [09/22/2025 14:58:53.967] [INFO]: CKError : Failed to load the sound file, creating a default blank sound. [09/22/2025 14:59:02.702] [INFO]: Attribute Value : Unknown Parameter Type (Dll declaring this parameter is maybe absent) [09/22/2025 14:59:05.076] [INFO]: CKError : Failed to load the sound file, creating a default blank sound.

Testing audio with winecfg sounds fine.

Here are the configs

(I have a 1920x1080 monitor, but don't want my game to be stretched, so I run at this resolution and "unlock higher resolution" doesn't add teh 1600x1200 option in the settings so yeah :|)

Same issue here via Proton.

you can fix that by replacing this dll file:

~/Games/Ballance
❯ fd CK2_3D.dll
RenderEngines/CK2_3D.dll
RenderEngines/CK2_3D.dll.bak

Please use Dx8SoundManager. Place Dx8SoundManager.dll into the Managers folder inside the game directory, and remove DX7SoundManager.dll.

Awesome! Thanks. I noticed that when the music volume is set to 0 I can still faintly hear it. Is this a bug or is this how the game originally deals with music?

That's the normal/original behavior of the game afaik.
