roslynator.dotnet.cli version 0.10.2.0 not using latest Roslynator version 4.14.0.0

Open davewichers opened this issue 3 months ago • 4 comments

I just installed the roslynator command line tools using: "dotnet tool install -g roslynator.dotnet.cli" and then ran: roslnyator --help

which returns:

"Roslynator Command Line Tool version 0.10.2.0 (Roslyn version 4.12.0.0)"

However, Roslynator is at version 4.14.0 now. Shouldn't an install today get 4.14.0? And when it says Roslyn version 4.12.0.0, does it actually mean Rosylnator version 4.12.0.0?

Does the published roslynator.dotnet.cli need to be updated or something?

Hi, sorry for the confusion.

Roslyn version 4.12.0.0

means version of Microsoft.CodeAnalysis packages that Roslynator use.

4.14.0 is latest version of Roslynator.

It's just coincidence in version values.

OK. Maybe add some clarity to the message being generated to avoid this confusion in the future?

We can improve the message. Do you have a suggestion how to make it more clear?

How about something like: "Roslynator Command Line Tool version 0.10.2.0 (which uses Roslyn version 4.12.0.0)"

And of course, while you are at it, can you upgrade to Roslyn v 4.14.0, as well (which is a separate issue).
