Kaby Lake R issues

Open khronokernel opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

Currently in the install guide, we assume that Kaby Lake R should be thrown into the 7th generation configs, however this is not ideal as the CPU itself is much closer to a Coffee Lake system.

To resolve:

  • Clarify Kaby lake R is actually Coffee Lake
  • Add move Kaby Lake R DeviceProperties over to Coffee lake

Hey @khronokernel,

  • Add move Kaby Lake R DeviceProperties over to Coffee lake

I fear it won't be that simple.

F.e. if you use Coffelake-GPU-props, the backlight will stop to work as the CFL-backlight-patches do not apply.

Additionally KabyLake allows to spoof the system to Skylake, which is the only known fix for some bad color banding (https://github.com/acidanthera/bugtracker/issues/1159) experienced in certain iGPU/Display-combinations. This could be fixed in WEG though.

If you have any more infos or ideas, I'll be glad to hear them, as especially the GPU-config on KabyLake-R is a big PITA.

I had that exact problem when I was setting up my Hackintosh (with an i7-8550U). Maybe Kaby Lake-R should be in its own section instead @khronokernel, because it won't fit into the Coffee Lake one.
