Did some more digging... the change https://github.com/ansible/ansible/commit/3684b4824d367f866d038c5373f975503580d49e most likely introduced this behavior (maybe in combination with https://github.com/ansible/ansible/commit/54ccad9e460cb6bfa0ff585a46289239966b56cc). I would like to get this fixed so our [workflow does not break](https://xkcd.com/1172/)...
