unable to import buildings

Open 3d-illusions opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Blender and OS versions

2.93 win 10

Describe the bug

cant import building due to map size (which is not that big, runs fine with all buildings on google earth in a browser for example)

How to Reproduce

go to nottingham in the uk and import it as a base map. works out around 30x30km. Try and import the buildings. could do with being an option to specify max import size in Mb, pehraps it's set internally quite cautiously to ensure it doesn't crash lower spec pc's?

A workaround I've found is to import a large area to be used as the rendered base map, and then create several smaller base maps to import the buildings onto.

Would be great if it could automatically import the buildings in chunks of 'acceptable' areas until the base map is fully covered. Perhaps the current area's import could be interruptable if resources get low. Maybe even auto pause and wait for permission to continue if system is struggling?

It's quite tricky at the moment, because there's no way to know what size base map is going to be too big for building import.

The request is limited to 20x20km to not overload the OSM overpass server, but you can also import an OSM xml file downloaded elsewhere. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Downloading_data
