But why?

This is the icon design used by Big Sur and newer. Apple has been recommending that apps use this style in the human interface guidelines since Big Sur released in 2020.

Yea I know. But it's only recommended and most 3rd party software don't care or actively avoid it to distinguish themselves from Apple applications. So this is basically entirely subjective.

Personally, as the icon's creator and a macOS user, I'm not in favor. Because variety is nice, and I'm working on a V2 logo anyway and imo we should decide this after that.

Let me put in a vote for being in favor.

I greatly prefer my apps to comply with the HIG and the icon is part of that. Right now, Dolphin is one of the few icons in my Dock that doesn't use this standard. (Right now, of the third party apps in my Dock, the ratio of matching vs non-matching icons is 2:1.)

That being said, if there is a new icon coming, I agree that we should probably wait for that.

I'm working on it, with a goal of it being done before 2023 arrives. There's a lot up in the air still (like the whole release process) but I'm doing my best.

I will leave this here so people know what he is talking about. It is out of place, and the background might help it be more readable, but its really personal preference.
