Does not enable wifi calling for supported carriers
The tool does not enable wifi calling (when iPhone is not nearby) for supported carriers. This is something that is normally enabled on macs with BTLE and will allow the user to click a button in FaceTime preferences to upgrade to wifi calling. This allows the mac to make and receive cellular calls without the need to route them through an iPhone. Please add the ability to enable this feature as well.
I noticed this as well on my late 2011 MacBook Pro w/ upgraded hardware
@dokterdok any word on if this can be enabled in a similar fashion? seems like it should just be editing a plist or something.
I'm not on a carrier which supports wifi calling yet, which makes it a lot harder for me to figure it out. I will try and see if I can get it to work though. If anyone got a hint please let me know!
So i pulled the strings on the FaceTime app. it appears there are a few strings referring to "Thumper" calling. I think this may be what iOS and Mac OS refer to Wi-Fi Calling as. There is a string "supportsThumperCalling" but setting this to YES has no effect:
defaults write com.apple.FaceTime supportsThumperCalling -bool YES
Would be interested in this too. Mac Book Air Mid - 2011.
@sysfloat Any word on this? This would be a killer feature of we could get it going. I would totally send you a t-mobile SIM card for testing if you think it would help (you in the US?).
Edit: this also works on AT&T now too.
Any updates on this?
