FPS Drop in Dying Light with DXVK 2.5.3
I have encountered a significant FPS drop when using the latest versions of DXVK (2.5.2 and 2.5.3) in Dying Light 1 and its DLCs . In contrast, using Proton 8.0.5, which includes DXVK 2.3 , the FPS remains stable at 60FPS. A video has been uploaded showing the gameplay with both versions of DXVK for a clearer demonstration of the issue.

PROTON LOGS :
Hi there and thank you for the issue. Is the dxvk 2.5.2 and 2.5.3 test done with what comes with newer Proton versions or have you manually switched them around? I'm curious if helps Proton 9 or Experimental to use a older version or if it stays the same
No I haven't manually switched dxvk version
I only changed proton version , first i tried proton 9.0.3 then 9.0.4 and then latest proton 9 experimental - bleeding edge
Then I remembered that back in 2.3 dxvk I wasn't facing any issues and I was using proton 8 , so switched back to proton 8.0.5 and fps issue was fixed
Just played the game for about 3 hours with latest master and it was fine. It's most likely an issue with Proton, as I'm on Wine Staging, and not something dxvk specific.
Well this problem is on all stable version of proton 9 ( i tested this on 9.0.3 and 9.0.4 )
Only proton version that's working is 8.0.5d with 2.3 dxvk
I will try to manually swap dxvk to 2.3 in proton exp and report back
I've tried for a while to reproduce the issue on either my Arc b580 or my AMD rdna2 iGPU. But have been unable to
Update :
manually swapping dxvk version from 2.5.3 to 2.3.0 in proton experimental fixed all stuttering and fps drops
i uploaded another video

also uploaded new proton logs :
i will try to manually swap dxvk version to 2.4 and test again until i can find out which dxvk version causes fps drops and stuttering
DXVK 2.4.1 works without any issues , also uploaded new video and proton logs

Does it change anything if you run the game with DXVK_CONFIG="dxvk.enableMemoryDefrag = False"
nope here are the logs :
from dxvk 2.5 onwards this happens , gonna stick to 2.4.1 with proton 9.0.4 as it fixes my issue for now
Tried with Proton 8.0.5 with latest 2.5.3 , same issue there
only when switching back to 2.4.1 fixed in dying light , played for 3 hours on 2.4.1 without any issues
i think i have to open another issue as assassins creed brotherhood has this same issue ( stutter and fps drop ) after 30 mins of playing
EDIT : Assassins creed Brotherhood issue was fixed after switching to wine-kron4ek-tkg-staging using bottles with dxvk 2.4.1 , could be a proton 9 problem
Update : Tried Dying Light using Bottles with Dxvk 2.5.3 + Kron4ek-wine-tkg-stagine 10.0 , same fps drop and stutter , but was fully fixed with 2.4.1 dxvk , strange
@v3kt0r-87 Can you give this a try with 2.6? Not that i am confident anything would have changed in regards to this

of course will do now and report

well there is fps improvement in 2.6 but we need to disable Ambient Occlusion to fix it
if we look up at the sky and then down fps drop goes away for 2 -3 seconds then comes back , wierd

@v3kt0r-87 Might be interesting to give this build a go https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/actions/runs/15523148840

i think im also having the same issue and changing to proton 8 made dying light playable also i don't think this is d3d11 exclusive as ive experience similar stutters in new vegas but ill have to actually check if an older proton/dxvk version fixes that
ok older dxvk seems to provide slightly better performance in new vegas but am unable to test proton 8 with new vegas. also replacing proton ge's dxvk with 2.4.1 did not fix stuttering in dying light so proton 8 seems like the only option (i might have also replaced the wrong files but idk) also i know it has something to do with dxvk when i comes to new vegas at least because without it the game performs better
I can confirm DXVK 2.4.1 is best for Dying Light (stable performance/FPS). On latest DXVK 2.6.2 the game doesn't even start (A770, Win 10).

for me 2.6.2 fixed most issues somtimes fps drops to mid 50 , but yes still 2.4.1 is what i use for playing this game and dead island defintive edition as both are on the same engine ( and DIDE is ported )
It would be more interesting with a test of current master if you could

yes latest dxvk 2.7 fixes most issues , i just ran dying light again with it using latest proton exp and wine kron4ek tkg staging
