Assasins creed 2 / AC:Brotherhood

Open DarkoP913 opened this issue 2 years ago • 39 comments

Massive camera shaking and at irregular rate.Like twitching. In some view directions its much less in amplitude and severe in other directions. No settings / resolution/Vsync off or on helps. I use DXVK with reshade but even without it, same problem remains. Here is the issue on video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtqvrBByEZo

Note that this is a game bug that can get triggered somehow and neither I nor the devs have ever been able to reproduce it. https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/2249#issuecomment-1195559553 Also see for one of the bit later games https://www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/help/assassins-creed-revelations/connectivity-and-performance/article/flickering-or-shaky-camera-on-windows-10-in-assassins-creed-revelations/000063457

Will try again on my new setup tho

I am aware bout the renaming the systemdetection file in revelation(i never played the game) as a solution, but AC2 and Brotherhood dont have that file

DarkoP913 avatar Jul 03 '23 12:07 DarkoP913

The problem is that we cannot reproduce the problem. I played a bit of AC2 on my Steam Deck and it works fine.

K0bin avatar Jul 03 '23 12:07 K0bin

I have tried again to reproduce this. This time with my new setup on Windows 11 with dxvk in AC2, but i have still not been able to.

Blisto91 avatar Sep 03 '23 14:09 Blisto91

I'm having this exact same issue as ts

Tiwily avatar Sep 21 '23 18:09 Tiwily

still no fix for this? i tried every version camera shakes happens on all ezio trilogy

CressDecay-hub avatar Oct 07 '23 20:10 CressDecay-hub

None of us have been able to reproduce it yet no. And not from a lack of trying.

I can agree on this as I looked it up on PCGAMINGWIKI website. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed_II#Stuttering.2FTearing_with_Vsync_On_or_Off This is a bug not related to DXVK. @DarkoP913 what is your CPU, your monitor's refresh rate, and are you playing with a controller? Cause this is a bug from Ubisoft's "bugged" testing on 50hz.

Cpu: i7 6700k. I had this same problem on my previous intel g4560 Monitor is 60hz but i had locked max fps on 58 fps(dont ask why) . Yesterday i tried to retest if its the nvidia controlpanel settings Vsync-wise , but the same problem remains. yes i even changed the max fps to 60 to eliminate variables. Now i rechecked vsync off or on, no change. Both from nvidia control panel (global settings) and from within the game.

Never used a controler, always keyboard and mouse

Follow what the guy's guide on the link. @DarkoP913 It will help you. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed_II#Stuttering.2FTearing_with_Vsync_On_or_Off

Let us know if it is fixed.

Thanks for trying but no. It doesnt fix it at all. So i used the CRU , Changed the 1080p(thats what im using ingame too) resolution refreshrate to 50 then the actual monitor frequency from properties image Checked the games res (it was on 59hz) changed to 50hz and i tried vsync on and off. No change What is weird to me is no one can discern even where the problem is from one (significant?) clue. The shaking is NOT the same in all view directions. Looking down has alot less.

If im missing something, let me know.Im not a programmer

DarkoP913 avatar Oct 27 '23 03:10 DarkoP913

CRU doesn't work? Did you change the threads on the cores for the game to read? It should be with the guide.

HonScottoSolo avatar Oct 27 '23 04:10 HonScottoSolo

Plus I'm not going say this was an overlook on ubisoft's view. If steam deck had the correct amount of threads and cores for the game to run. Then this is an issue on system spec on GPU/ CPU shadering issues with the game when using DXVK. Also I haven't asked about Ram or motherboard.

HonScottoSolo avatar Oct 27 '23 04:10 HonScottoSolo

Game completely shutsdown(no errors etc) while alt-tabbing or ctrl+alt+del , so i cant test the threads and cores. (i got 16 gigs of ram | 2x8 )

DarkoP913 avatar Oct 27 '23 08:10 DarkoP913

I have the same issue on Brotherhood. Setting .exe affinity to 1 core only seems to fix most of the camera issues but Ezio still moves a bit weird, so the problem looks to be CPU related. These games have notorious problems with multi-core CPUs on Windows even without dxvk: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed:_Brotherhood#In-game_stuttering.2C_freezing_issues

Found on some old forums that disabling CPU hyperthreding on BIOS made the games run better, but it does not fix this dxvk issue. I use a Ryzen 7 5700x (8C/16T).

not sure if any of this helps but it's what I found out.

BoldtSIx avatar Oct 27 '23 11:10 BoldtSIx

We found out this is a bug cause by the game not dxvk. Can so one put this is not our bug tag?

HonScottoSolo avatar Oct 27 '23 13:10 HonScottoSolo

We know it's a game issue. Just don't know why dxvk can trigger it

Blisto91 avatar Oct 27 '23 13:10 Blisto91

It is a CPU call back with GPU render.

HonScottoSolo avatar Oct 27 '23 13:10 HonScottoSolo

That doesn't mean much. The devs need to be able to reproduce to give it a proper look and haven't been able to yet sadly

Blisto91 avatar Oct 27 '23 14:10 Blisto91

Hmm. I see.

HonScottoSolo avatar Oct 27 '23 14:10 HonScottoSolo

The issue has followed me through 3 PC builds over the past few years. I know some will disagree, but it is not caused by user error. It's literally down to DXVK not communicating correctly for this game on any Windows 10/11 Nvidia/Intel or Ryzen configuration.

It's fine on Linux. But not on any Windows system with the above setup.

The "Can't reproduce" tag is only valid for testing on Linux. Try on any Win 10/11 and Nvidia setup, and I guarantee that you will have the same issue.

brad86m avatar Nov 16 '23 11:11 brad86m

can confirm this happens, the game is unplayable :(

hammerfist11 avatar Jan 14 '24 18:01 hammerfist11

@brad86m No, you can't guarantee it. The bug never triggered on my Win10 setup (previously Ryzen 2600X + Vega 56, now Ryzen 5600X + Navi 6650 XT).

@brad86m I've tried it on Windows with DXVK, couldnt reproduce it either.

K0bin avatar Jan 15 '24 22:01 K0bin

Ditto.

I will give it another shot again again later with some different parts. But we've tried alot without luck so far.
