host.docker.internal gets not resolved

Open Hugo54x opened this issue 9 months ago • 0 comments

Description

I am rocking a notebook with a thunderbolt dock with an ethernet port and wifi from time to time. I am not shutting down my pc every time I stop to work.

My ethernet adapter is set to a fixed ip address while my wifi is configured automatically. In my router I set fixed IP Address for my notebook based on the mac address. Reason is, that I could connect different devices to my thunderbolt dock, but i don't wan't them to have the same ip address. I wan't to identify the device and not the workplace in my case.

Problem is, that docker don't know what to do, if some network adapter changes. The entry in the host file stays the same. I guess it is initialized once (at install time or reboot?). This results in poor service performance due to timeouts in the name resolving

Reproduce

  1. check your ip address (e.g. 192.168.178.64)
  2. check the entry in the host file for host.docker.internal (e.g. 192.168.178.60)
  3. set the entry to e.g. 192.168.178.64
  4. enjoy good service quality again

Expected behavior

It would be great if the host-file is updated regulary when some network adapter change is detected.

Additional Info

I am running a custom build kernel image with fuse built-in. The problem existed also before I changed to a custom compiled kernel.
