Android Builds using Mac Mini on M2, Gitlab Runner, and Docker

Open ekurdesov opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

Description

Hi, we are running our gitlab build pipelines via gitlab runner which runs on in house mac mini, it was recently updated and we have moved from intel core to M2. I've been trying to get it to build for few weeks now and have no luck at all.

This is the error I get building the ./gradlew assembleDebug `AAPT2 aapt2-8.4.0-11315950-linux Daemon #0: Unexpected error output: rosetta error: failed to open elf at /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

Execution failed for AarResourcesCompilerTransform: /builds/apps/myapp/.gradle/caches/transforms-4/276d3b1fe51ce675cfc3ca2f4803435d/transformed/core-1.13.1. > AAPT2 aapt2-8.4.0-11315950-linux Daemon #5: Daemon startup failed This should not happen under normal circumstances, please file an issue if it does. `

I've heavily researched online and have tried the top 10 docker images from hub that did have android installed. I've tried forcing docker to use AMD64 images and not ARM ones but haven't seen that gradle to build successfully. Tried on gradle docker images, tried building via ubuntu:rolling or 24.04, java docker images as well I've tried on a few different versions of java, 21, 22 I've also tried using older versions of docker like 4.22-4.25-4.27

I did half of that before knowing there is a thing called roseta, so after installing it did all the same steps and haven't had any success, one of the posts was suggesting to use colima so I have tried that as well. None of the solutions seem to work and I don't know what else to try.

Reproduce

run gitlab runner and docker setup on M2 mac mini then build android application using gradle

Expected behavior

gradle build should not fail

I've been trying to build a project in Docker arm64 and I get the same issue even though Docker has rosetta support.
